Opening Morning - Antelope Season

Just to prewarn anyone faint of heart, at the bottom of this entry you will find several demised animals pictured with Anne. We prefer to think of them as food, however, when eating morning breakfast and pleasantly wondering what beautiful garden or kid pictures the Millers have posted today..it is only fair to warn ahead of time. For someone nearly 8 months pregnant, this am went rather well. Came downstairs in somewhat warm clothing in case of spotting the herd close by, changing pants three times, getting offered husband's long underwear since hers does not fit, snagging coffee and toast with said husband and child, then sighting herd just off the shooting range setup. Roughly 270 yds from the bench we target practice from (yes Joe, THAT one). Grab gun and safety gear, walk calmly to shooting bench, settle down after deciding that pregnant women don't fit very well in the tractor-style seat we have out there and take aim with the 223AI. It took two shots, with the first being lethal but Anne doesn't like any lag or suffering time involved, so two rounds fired just to be sure.

At this point, husband has dashed from house with his firearm (6XC) with thumbs up....after settling a slightly bewildered Gwen in her crib for a brief moment. Eric took aim and brought down another one as they crossed the creek below at 425yd. The marvelous thing about being preggers means that ever-loving husbands get the animals, bring it out for fast picture and take care of the other associated tasks while mommy heads in for coffee and to entertain the baby. We're hoping to get a few more later today and of the larger variety....but when you're at the grocery store and there's a sale on something you need.....the biggest and best isn't always the most convenient. Especially when you and a beached whale have a lot in common :)

  2. Good to hear - I passed up one about the same size as the one we had mounted two years ago this am because I figured Gary would be a little disappointed if I used my tag opening day! :)
